Freemium Gaming Age

I love the fact that we live in an age where phones can handle serious gaming. On the App Store today there is a vast selection of games that were playable on consoles less than 10 years ago.

More and more, the games on phones and tablets are getting like the games of the PC and 64 bit era. It’s brilliant. Except that the games that were on the PC weren’t fremium. One of the greatest games of all time was Roller Coaster Tycoon, which they have just a released a revised version of! Sadly, it is another victim to the freemium age.

I’m happy to pay for a game – I don’t mind if it’s a little bit pricey. But the one thing that I just don’t appreciate is ‘freemium’ games. That’s a free game, that requires actual cash to play. The trouble is – they make them all so good. Very frustrating.

But I can’t judge. I just spent a tenner on the ‘Free’ Simpsons Tapped Out. Jolly good fun. My wallet doesn’t agree though…
