Final Cut Studio Install on the Mac

It would be no secret that I quite appreciate Apple stuff. But it’s also no secret that the shelf-life of an Apple product is short to say the least. I found this to be true when I tried to install my (“Universal”!) Final Cut Studio Pro (v7 I think) on my new iMac. It came up with an error saying that PowerPC disks are no longer supported. Even though the software runs Intel.

After doing some extensive online research, I found a way around it. So if you are having the same problem – here’s the fix. Stick the disk in, open terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and enter the following code. It will say ‘installing’ and not give you a progress bar, but leave it for a bit and it will tell you once it has completed. At which point, you can enter in your serial code and you’re good to go.

sudo installer -package /Volumes/Final\ Cut\ Studio/Installer/FinalCutStudio.mpkg -target /

There, that saved you £200 buying Final Cut X, didn’t it?!
